What it takes to be an artist

Cat on piano 2

It takes a lot to be an artist.

It takes a lot of courage. It takes a lot of connections. It takes a lot of time and focus and energy. It takes a lot of blood, sweat and tears. It takes heartache. It takes trial and error. It takes fear, uncertainty and doubt. It takes distress and anxiety and depression.

It’s hard work and it will push you to your limits. But there’s also another side.

You’ll join supportive communities. You’ll meet and work with other inspiring artists. You’ll see your audience respond emotionally to the music you wrote and performed. You’ll embrace your supporters. You’ll laugh at the critics and haters. You’ll create deep and enduring personal relationships. You’ll make music that matters. And you’ll be acknowledged and appreciated for it.

Of course, it’s not easy. The greatest barriers, however, are your assumptions, prejudices, and stubbornness. Overcome these, and you can accomplish anything.
